One Less Worry
The Equipment Commitment to families
This highly innovative project will establish an equipment loan pool that is the benchmark for Paediatric palliative care equipment services. One Less Worry will meet a significant gap in providing much needed resources quickly for children with palliative conditions.
It is estimated that there are approximately 400 children with a life limiting illness within the Hunter New England Health District. These children spend extended time hospitalised. Having access to appropriate equipment will benefit countless children, parents, carers, extended family members as well as clinicians and staff that work with children in palliative care.
When a child is diagnosed with chronic and complex health illness families are confronted with many challenges. Caring for a sick child is an enormous task and presents many difficulties. To assist and alleviate some of the stress through the facilitation of equipment provides some normality to situations that are stressful and challenging.
Thanks to the Nicholastrust for Paediatric Palliative Care collaboratively with multiple services from the John Hunter Children’s Hospital and a $77,000 grant from the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, hundreds of children in our region and regional NSW will have access to an equipment loan pool. This project will enrich and enhance the lives of our fragile children and provide quality to the precious time to they spend at home with their families.
